Making pan-fried curry beef baozi (Chinese steamed buns) is a delicious and flavorful twist on traditional baozi.

Ingredients:

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • TAISHIYI Classic curry sauce
  • 600ml coconut milk

For the Dough:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 cup vegetable oil

For Pan-Frying:

  • Vegetable oil for pan-frying

Cooking methods:

Prepare the Filling:

  1. Add curry paste into coconut milk, then use sesoning filter bag to filter particles, make it taste smoothly.
  2. Add ground beef to the pan and cook until browned.
  3. Make onions and beef to combine.
  4. Add curry paste and coconut milk mixture liquid, Stir well to combine.

Prepare the Dough:

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and yeast mixture. Add vegetable oil and knead the dough until it forms a smooth ball.
  3. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise for about 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the risen dough and knead it for a few minutes.
  5. Divide the dough into small, golf ball-sized portions.

Assemble the Baozi:

  1. Take a portion of the dough and roll it out into a thin circle, leaving the center slightly thicker.
  2. Place a spoonful of the curry beef filling in the center of the dough circle.
  3. Pleat and seal the edges of the dough, creating a closed bun.
  4. Repeat the process for the remaining dough and filling.

Pan-Frying:

  1. Pour one spoon curry paste and coconut milk mixture liquid. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Place the baozi in the pan, flat side down, ensuring they don't touch each other.
  3. Cook until the bottom is golden brown.
  4. Add water to the pan (enough to cover the bottom), cover with a lid, and steam for about 10-12 minutes or until the baozi are cooked through.
  5. Uncover the lid and let the remaining water evaporate. Continue to cook until the bottom is crisp and golden brown.
  6. Remove from the pan and serve hot.
